Above: 64th and Social

To improve this venue is a tough proposition. Not because Pentagon couldn’t be improved on, quite the opposite in fact, but because the space is long, thin and dark. Sensibly, the new owners have concentrated on what they can change and not spent too long worrying about architectural restraints. So you’ll find a venue that is still long, thin and dark but with your senses distracted by the smooth tunes, stylish décor and creative cocktails, it is no longer important. You definitely feel that drinks really are the focus at 64th and Social. The bar staff are proud of the menu and talk animatedly about their cocktails while they mix them with care and precision. They’ve also carved out some space for a small kitchen which prepares light bites including Billingsgate-sourced tiger prawns and Atlantic oysters, as well as more substantial burgers and seared halibut. Try: Passion fruit pavlova – just awesome
