In the competitive world of Clapham High Street bars, Rinky Dink has endured while others have faded. It has established itself as a destination on this bustling thoroughfare of eating and drinking establishments. There are several reasons for this apparent popularity. Its décor is refreshingly original for a start. No plain, soulless, neutral colours here. Instead the look is more gothic boudoir, with dark feature wallpaper, black lampshades and discreet tables. Then there’s the drinks menu. No mention of ‘mixologists’ here which is an immediate plus, instead there’s a good, thoughtful selection of classic cocktails and house specials. Of special note are a variety of mojitos (evidently Clapham’s favourite drink) and a sensational Key West – a multicoloured mix which tastes like an iced lolly. The food menu essentially consists of a variety of pizzas which might suggest that they are choosing to let the drinks do the talking, but that does the kitchen a disservice, for it’s freshly-made and very fine pizza. Such dedication suggests that this is going to be one of Clapham’s long-term residents.
Try: Arabiata pizza with a Kill Bill 2 chaser.
